Seniors and People with Disabilities Who Receive SSI Can Be Eligible for CalFresh in Summer 2019
In the summer of 2019, the state policy that bans SSI recipients from receiving food stamps (CalFresh) ended. People who receive SSI are able to also receive CalFresh at the same time. Recipients can apply in person, online on GetCalFresh.org or BenefitsCal.com, over the phone, or with the help of Community Based Organizations. Many recipients can request to fill out the Elderly Simplified Application Form (CF 485).
To ensure that the change did not harm or reduce the food benefits of families that include an SSI recipient, the state screened households that lost CalFresh benefits as a result of this change and the households received state funded food benefits.
